How we work

The Zambezi Trust works with local “NGOs” (Non Government Organisations) as partners to deliver projects in the Zambezi region. This has the advantage of having local people with local knowledge running the projects on a daily basis and ensuring any problems and issues are resolved quickly.

The Trust goes through an extensive process to ensure that the local NGO partners are trustworthy and have a history of successful projects, including a visit and review of their current and previous work.

All objectives and budgets are agreed for each individual project with the NGO before any funding is given. We then receive regular updates from the NGO’s to ensure the projects are progressing as planned and the Trustees will visit projects with the NGO at least once a year. During the lifetime of a project, we may agree changes with the NGO to adapt to changing circumstances and may alter funding levels accordingly.

The first NGO we have identified to work with is HODI (meaning “may I come in”). HODI is run by Chileshe Chilangwa, a highly educated and respected director who has extensive experience in rural development throughout Zambia; Steve Mumbi runs our projects in the Chiawa region. HODI’s vision is a society free of poverty and whose members have access to all their basic needs. HODI promotes self reliance among community groups and sustainability of their activities.
